What’s your Health Age?

Posted in Reviews, Tools

I just discovered preventdisease.com, a site not dissimilar to prevention.com but with some different tools. One of them is a calculator to arrive at your “health age”. It asks you questions about your diet, exercise, coronary artery disease, family history and so forth and calculates the effective age of your body.

Apparently I’m 11 years old, which would explain the Spider-Man comics.

I’m also predicted to live to 106, so I’d better keep contributing to that retirement savings fund.

Ah, I see what they’re doing now – the various factors (where you live, your family history, your health behaviors) add or subtract “health years” relative to, presumably, the average person. I have 29 of these. They then subtract the 29 from my actual age, 40, to give 11, and add it to the average life expectancy of a man living in New Zealand, 77, to give 106. Not very scientific, and I wouldn’t pay a lot of attention to the actual figures, but the point it makes is a useful one – there are things you can do to affect your longevity.

I found it while looking for ab exercises with dumbbells – they have a good weight training chart.

Someone seriously needs to do something about their look, though, it’s very 90s.
