Hypnosis: Good for pain, healing, treatment side effects

April 17th, 2008 · View Comments

“If somebody told you there was a medication that could treat 100 different conditions, didn’t require a prescription, was free, and had no bad side effects, you wouldn’t believe them,” says Harvard Medical School psychologist Carol Ginandes, PhD. “I don’t want to sound like a snake oil salesman, because hypnosis is not a magic wand. But it should be made available as a supplementary treatment for all patients who could benefit. Right now.”

That’s from a very positive and well-researched article about hypnosis for healthcare on the website of Prevention magazine.

They also have quite a good short piece on how hypnosis works.

I like the website’s breadth of coverage. It has sections on brain fitness, emotional health, healthy lifestyle and healthy relationships as well as encyclopedic sections on drugs, vitamins and conditions and treatments. I’m a bit of a sucker for online tools, and it also has a tracker section where you can keep track of your healthy lifestyle change plan as I suggested in my post yesterday (Changing your life requires a plan). Their tagline is “smart ways to live well”, and that’s what I’m all about.

I’ve added Prevention to my Free Resources section (which, incidentally, now has an RSS feed that you can subscribe to – I don’t add things very often, but when I do, you can be notified.)

Thanks to Hypnobabies for putting me on to this.
